Standard on all Jeep Compass’ models is a 172-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. Manual transmission is standard. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is optional. Also available as a credit on the front-drive Sport with the CVT is a 158-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder.  The Compass is slightly bigger and much more comfortable than the Cherokee was 10 years ago. The Jeep Compass uses DaimlerChrysler’s 2.4-liter, four-cylinder World Engine.  It’s a solid, sophisticated, 16-valve engine.
